ERP Advance Bill of Materials is a comprehensive inventory of the raw materials, assemblies, subassemblies, parts and components, as well as the quantities of each, needed to manufacture a product.
In a nutshell, it is the complete list of all the items that are required to build a product.
ERP Advance Bill of Materials is the name of the system module that provides part maintenance and reporting functions for detailed methods of manufacturing. Parts can be associated with bills of material and routing information through Part Master Maintenance if you have this module. This method of manufacturing information can be used to supply the manufacturing details when you enter quotes or jobs for these parts.
Each method is associated with a specific part revision. Revision information is also entered through part master maintenance.
Other features of the module allow you to re-sequence materials and operations, mass replace operations and work centers as you make changes on the plant floor, roll up standard costs, and print various reports.
ERP Advance Bill of Materials allows the entry, maintenance and listing of product bills of manufacturing, describing the structure of components and finished goods. Bill of materials (BOM) data is stored in a single-level format, meaning that each component assembly is assigned a unique part number and built only once. Multi-level relationships are then made by chaining together a series of single-level relationships, keeping system space utilization and key-in time to a minimum.
Advanced Bill of Materials installs with the Inventory Management module, so current inventory costs are always available for use in BOM costing. This also allows BOM cost roll-up to update current inventory costs. With Advanced Bill of Materials, single-level or complex multi-level assemblies can be created, maintained and used for quotes or jobs, saving valuable time for your engineering and production departments.
Method of Manufacturing
Method of manufacturing, or method, is all the information required to build a part. It includes all purchased and manufactured parts necessary, as well as the sequence of operations required to build the final product. The list of materials is known as the bill of material, and the list of operations is known as the routing.
Methods of manufacturing in the system are stored in what is commonly referred to as the methods file. This “file” is actually a series of files that are subsets of your Part Master information. The bill of material and routing information is entered through the Engineering Workbench if you have the Advanced Bill of Materials module.
System allows you to pull a method into a job or quote, make any changes and optionally save the changes back to the method.
After you complete a production run, you should review how you did on the job and make appropriate changes to the method. That way, if you ever run the part again, you will have an accurate record of production information necessary.
If you do not have the Advanced Bill of Materials module, you can use quote or job templates to store your methods information.
Engineering Approval
Until a method has been formally approved, it cannot be pulled into a job or a quote.
Costs Stored
Besides material costs, additional costs for manufactured parts such as labor, burden and subcontracting are stored and monitored within the bill of materials structure.
Cost Replace
The Cost Replace function rolls up costs from BOM and updates the finished goods inventory file.
Same as Except
Save and restore functions are used within the system to easily create new or same-as-except product structures without having to re-enter information.
Revision Control
Complete revision tracking with audit trail of date, user ID and description of the change.
Visual Indented Bill of Materials
Display an exploded view of an indented Bill of Materials to show product structure on the screen with a “staircase” numbering designation.
Requirements Reporting
A summarized material option, in addition to the standard indented BOM Requirement Report, is available to provide total requirements for each material.
Where Used
By displaying every product or assembly in which a specified component is used, you are able to identify those parts that would be affected by a contemplated design change or material substitution.
Mass Replace/Delete
Functions allow the efficient updating of all bill of materials structures when engineering changes occur.
Phantom Structures
Stock assemblies in inventory or maintain “phantom” assembly structures. This gives you the flexibility to process complex jobs without having to first establish a complete Bill of Materials. Integration Advanced Bill of Materials is fully integrated with Quote Management, Job Management, Material Requirements Planning, Inventory Management and Document Management modules.
